New entry in the Sky Extreme category, the biennial Royal Ultra SkyMarathon Gran Paradiso offers a serious challenge to those who like their racing tough.
The 52km course winds through the Gran Paradiso National Park in the royal hunting grounds where runners will compete with ibex and chamois. The severe 4,287m vertical climb reaches 3,000m passes and competitors will cross snowfields, moraines, rocks and streams.
The race starts near a lake just below 2,000m altitude and climbs seven passes, overshadowed by the magnificent 4,061m Gran Paradiso mountain to finish by another lake for a true skyrunning experience.
