The On Cloud Edge Moonlight is, in essence, the On Cloud with some very cool enhancements added to it, inspired by space exploration. I’m in love with everything about this shoe, from the design and color scheme right through to how comfortable it is.
It feels like a cross between the Cloud and Cloud X. While it clearly resembles the On Running Cloud, the comfort level is more in-line with the Cloud X, which is an excellent shoe for running with.
I’m also a big fan of astronomy, so how could I not love a design concept that draws so much inspiration from the Interstellar realms. Read on for a detailed look at the shoe and its features.
Here’s a quick first look at the shoe and the visual differences between it and the On Cloud Edge Moonlight.

Fit & Design
The Cloud Edge Moonlight shoes are very comfortable and feel like slippers when you first put them on. Enhancements to the tongue and lacing system make them feel even more comfortable than the On Cloud. There’s also the addition of a finger loop at the rear which makes slipping them on nice and easy.
Possibly the most interesting enhancement though is the reflective detailing that covers the shoe. It reflects a magnificent technicolor rainbow color at night.
Reflective materials have even been woven into the fabric of the laces and sprinkled across the upper and outsole. This all adds to the interstellar look of the Cloud Edge Moonlight.
The Edge Moonlight has been made in partnership with PTScientists, a startup in Berlin committed to breaking down barriers to space and lunar research. To learn more about the partnership between On and PTScientists click here.
Upper
The outer mesh material is very breathable, has a little bit of stretch, and offers some protection at the front with a plastic-coated toe cap. The coated toe cap should stop any front-on water splashes from entering the shoe and also increase durability in the toe box.
There are areas in the upper that have been protected with strips of โno-sew foilโ that holds the fabrics together and reduces the chance of tearing.
Inner Sock
There’s also an inner sock that attaches the tongue to the forefoot area, similar to the On Cloudflow, On Cloud X and On Cloudace running shoes. This keeps the tongue in place and prevents dirt coming between your foot and the shoe walls. It also reduces the risk of chafe as there are fewer seams inside.
Also worth noting is that inside the shoe there are soft rubbery strips that run either side of the insole which reduces foot slide.
Tongue & Laces
The tongue is more similar to the Cloud X rather than the On Cloud, which I think is a good choice for this shoe. The tongue is slightly longer than the Cloud too and comes with a loop that the laces can thread through, this also helps keep the tongue in place.
On is using standard laces for the Cloud Edge Moonlight, rather than elasticated laces like with the Cloud. With this change, you lose the benefit of being able to slip the shoe on and off quickly. On the flip side though, you do gain extra comfort as these laces extend down to the toe box and can be fastened with fine adjustments.
Outsole
The outsole is identical to the On Cloud and On Cloud X; which is responsive and lightweight, perfect for speed training on the roads! If you haven’t tried “Running On Clouds” before, I recommend you give it a try! CloudTec is an innovation that seems to help me run much faster.
The cloud pods give you that feeling of a cushioned landing, as they compress under your weight and then provide a barefoot take off as your foot leaves the ground and the pods spring back.
Drop & Weight
The Cloud Edge Moonlight has a heel to toe drop of 6mm, great for all-day comfort whether you choose to wear this shoe for everyday lifestyle, running, gym workouts or all of the above.
Weighing in at 230g (US M 8.5) this is a super lightweight shoe. Friends always say how light they are when they hold them. I felt the On Running Cloud sacrificed a touch of cushioning/comfort because of the minimal style and reduced weight but the Cloud Edge Moonlight seems to have retained complete comfort.
Toe Box
The toe box is medium width and feels very airy due to the breathable upper material.

In Summary
I’m wearing the On Cloud Edge Moonlight as a lifestyle shoe because I find myself often wanting to break out into a run when on the move, therefore I need a shoe that can do a bit of everything on a day to day basis.
If the Cloud Edge Moonlight didn’t look so attractive I’d definitely do more serious running with it because the truth is, it’s an extremely comfortable and high-performance shoe for running. In fact, I’d go as far to say it’s on par with the On Cloud X for performance running, if not better!
I’m very impressed with the Cloud Edge Moonlight. It gives me the complete package of comfort, style and versatility.
If you want to get hold of the Cloud Edge Moonlight, be quick because it’s super limited edition and won’t be around for long!
For the best price and a smooth purchasing experience, I recommend buying the On Cloud Edge Moonlight at the On-Running Store.
