As a runner, finding the perfect shoe is sometimes like discovering your own secret weapon. It’s the difference between an okay run and a great one. Today, I’m diving into a comparison between two popular Saucony models, both of which I have reviewed on Trail & Kale: the Saucony Ride 17 VS Triumph 21.

Both of these running shoes have their unique strengths, designed to meet different needs and preferences, and I’m going to do my best to highlight them so that you can make a decision on which to buy.

Whether you’re pounding the pavement daily or gearing up for longer, cushier runs, understanding the nuances between these two can help you make the best choice for your running endeavors.

In-depth reviews:

Saucony Ride 17: The daily trainer at an affordable price

Starting with the Saucony Ride 17 then, seeing as it’s the newer of the two running shoes. The Ride 17 is the epitome of reliability for your everyday runs.

It’s designed with comfort and daily training in mind, making it an excellent choice for runners looking for an affordable shoe that combines durability with a plush feel.

Key Features:

  • Fits true to size and offers a comfortable, snug fit without the need for adjustments.
  • Medium, semi-plush cushioning provides a balanced feel for daily mileage.
  • Neutral stability is suitable for a wide range of runners who don’t need extra support.
  • Durable outsole ensures longevity and grip across various surfaces.
  • Sleek design is fashionable enough to transition from run to walking, and casual wear.
  • Priced at $140, it offers solid performance without breaking the bank.

Ideal For: Runners seeking a dependable daily trainer that offers comfort and versatility for accumulating those regular miles but doesn’t perform as well when trying to run faster.

Saucony Triumph 21: More cushioning and performance

On the other side, we have the Saucony Triumph 21, a shoe that’s all about delivering maximum comfort and cushioning.

This model is perfect for runners looking for a plush ride during their longer runs or those who prioritize softness and support.

Key Features:

  • Enhanced cushioning offers a soft, luxurious feel underfoot, ideal for longer distances.
  • Responsive ride despite its plushness, it maintains a level of responsiveness for a lively running experience.
  • Increased durability that’s built to withstand high mileage without compromising on comfort or performance.
  • Stylish design makes it a great companion beyond the tracks.
  • Priced at $160, it caters to those prioritizing cushioning and comfort over everything else.

Ideal For: Longer-distance runners or those who prefer a softer, more cushioned running experience without sacrificing responsiveness.

Which One Should You Choose?

If your aim is to rack up daily miles with a reliable, no-fuss trainer, and you don’t want to break the bank, the Ride 17 is going to be the better choice for you. Its balanced cushioning and durability make it ideal for regular training sessions.

However, if you’re focusing on longer distances or seeking a more cushioned, luxurious feel underfoot, the Triumph 21 will serve you better, providing that extra comfort and support needed for extended runs.

The Ride 17 offers a semi-plush feel that strikes a balance between comfort and responsiveness, making it versatile for a variety of runs. The Triumph 21, with its enhanced cushioning, leans more towards providing a plush, comfortable ride, yet still retains a good level of responsiveness.

Both shoes are priced within the fairly premium range, but the Triumph 21 is $20 more expensive due to its advanced cushioning technologies and performance when running at speed, in my personal opinion.

Now, although they both other great value for money – I would pay the extra $20 for the Triumph 21 as it’s a more versatile shoe that allows me to enjoy those tempo runs as well as daily jogs.

Consider what’s more important to you; the daily versatility and value of the Ride 17 or the premium comfort and plushness of the Triumph 21.

Saucony Ride 17 VS Triumph 21 summary

Both the Saucony Ride 17 and Triumph 21 have their unique appeals, catering to different types of runners and preferences. By understanding your own running needs and what you value most in a running shoe, you can make the best choice to support your running journey.

Whichever you choose, both are designed to offer a great running experience, keeping your feet happy mile after mile. Let me know in the comments below which one you went for!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy running! -Alastair
