What is the Cairn Subscription Box?
Cairn is a box delivery service that promises to send out a selection of new outdoor products each month. Cairn offer various subscription tiers (starting at $29.95 per month for the original Cairn Box) that essentially make your monthly subscription cheaper, the more months you sign up for. Once you sign up, you will be asked to fill out a survey so that the products sent out can be curated to the things you love. Below are the different box types:
The Original Box
This was Cairns first subscription box. It’s delivered monthly and will contain up to 6 carefully curated outdoor products, up to $50 in value.
This is the box that Cairn sent us and ours contained 3 products. One higher value product was included, which was the multi tool pictured below, with a couple of smaller value products included, a lip balm and some face wipes, pictured above.
The Obsidian Box
The Obsidian box contains 5-10 premium outdoor products with a $300+ retail value in each box. These are delivered quarterly and have limited quantities available.
Gift a Box
Either one of these boxes can be purchased as a one off gift for a loved one who enjoys the great outdoors! I think the Original box would make an excellent gift to someone who is getting started as an outdoor adventurer. It’s inexpensive and you don’t have to worry about what to choose as it’s all done for you.

The Obsidian Box would be a good gift but for someone who is more serious when it comes to their outdoor adventures. Many people may like to choose their own outdoor gear that they have researched themselves but there there are also some who just want to be told what the best equipment is. These are the people who will benefit from the Obsidian Box.
Both boxes could be great for outdoor enthusiasts looking to become more seasoned in their adventures, they will also have the benefit of learning about new brands. An Obsidian Box would give these people the right gear to do some serious adventuring and you’ll know its good gear because it has been curated by experts in their field.
Is it worth it?
As a gift to someone who likes their gear being selected for them by professionals or someone who is just getting the taste for outdoor adventures and being in nature, I’d say this is definitely worth it. I can’t comment directly on whether or not the monthly subscription is worth it as I’ve only had one box but if you enjoy receiving surprise outdoor gifts each month then you probably won’t be disappointed.
